The Villages is an age-restricted community, and each home sits inside a Community Development District with its own recorded deed restrictions — these govern things like minimum rental periods and who may occupy a home. The rules are not identical everywhere, so rather than give you a general answer that might not hold for the house you want, tell us the home and your dates and we will confirm exactly what applies before you book. A large part of this market is people trying the place before they buy, and we handle that every week.
Homeowners here are allowed to rent, and a great many do. What varies is the detail — every home sits inside a Community Development District with its own recorded deed restrictions covering things like minimum rental periods and occupancy. We confirm those for the exact address before a home is ever listed.
Renting gets you the town squares, the restaurants, the shops and the free live music without any pass at all — those are open to the public. The pools, recreation centers, pickleball and golf are different. They are resident amenities, and to get through the gate you need a Lifestyle ID or a guest pass.
A Lifestyle ID is a temporary resident card issued by The Villages. It is $50 per request form — not per person — and one form covers up to two IDs, which is the maximum The Villages issues per home. Only the homeowner or an authorised representative can apply, and we are that representative for every home we manage, so you never contact The Villages yourself.
Everyone else in your group uses free guest passes, collected at any Regional Recreation Center once your Lifestyle IDs have been picked up. They are good for up to 30 days and cover the family and adult pools, pickleball, tennis, shuffleboard, bocce and golf on both the championship and executive courses. They do not open the sports pools, and a guest-pass holder cannot reserve their own tee time.
Timing is the thing that catches people out. Lifestyle IDs are not issued the same day, and The Villages will not accept an application with an arrival date that has already passed — it gets rejected and resubmitted, which costs you days. Send us your details when you book, not the week you travel.
Where a cart is included there is a $20 insurance charge for the stay and a short liability waiver to sign — the access code is emailed to you automatically once it is done.

Do you have to be 55 to rent in The Villages?
The Villages is an age-restricted community and the occupancy rules come from each home’s district deed restrictions, so they are not identical everywhere. We would rather check than guess: tell us the home and your dates and we will confirm what applies. Separately, some amenities have their own rules whoever you are — the adult pools, for instance, are adult-only for residents and renters alike.
Can my children or grandchildren stay in the house with me?
Tell us who is coming and we will confirm the specific home before you book — occupancy rules come from the district deed restrictions and are not identical everywhere. On access: The Villages issues a maximum of two Lifestyle IDs per home, so in a family group those two go to whoever needs them most and everyone else uses the free guest passes from any Regional Recreation Center.
Does The Villages rent homes out itself?
We can only speak for the homes we manage. Ours belong to individual owners, and Hastings Home Ventures runs the listings, the bookings and everything on the ground — cleaning, maintenance, the Lifestyle ID paperwork. You deal with us rather than a platform or a call centre.
What is a Lifestyle ID and what does it get me?
It is a temporary resident card issued by The Villages, and it is what gets you through the gate at the pools, recreation centers, pickleball courts and golf courses during your stay. Without one you can still enjoy the town squares, restaurants and shops, which are open to the public.
What can I use on a guest pass, and what needs a Lifestyle ID?
Guest passes are free from any Regional Recreation Center once your Lifestyle IDs are collected, last up to 30 days, and cover the family and adult pools, pickleball, tennis, shuffleboard, bocce, and golf on both the championship and executive courses. They do not cover the sports pools, and a guest-pass holder cannot book their own tee time — someone with a Lifestyle ID has to book it for them.
How far ahead do I need to send my Lifestyle ID details?
As early as you can. Applications are processed in the order received, it is not same-day, and The Villages asks that you allow at least 24 hours after processing before collection. If your dates are close, tell us straight away and we will flag it rather than let it fail quietly.
