In The Villages this is genuinely common — a large share of the rental stock is snowbirds and part-year residents renting out their home for the months they are not in it. You will usually find them on Our Villages Rental, on VRBO, or in the community Facebook groups where owners post their own availability.
What you gain is directness. You are talking to the person whose furniture it is, they can answer questions nobody else can, and there is often room to negotiate on a longer stay in a way a platform will not allow. What you give up is recourse. If the air conditioning fails on a Saturday in August, an individual owner two states away is dependent on whoever they can reach by phone. If your dates fall through, there may be no one to move you. And there is no one local to let a technician in.
That is the whole trade-off, and for a lot of people the by-owner side of it is the right answer. If your stay is short, your needs are simple and the price is better, book direct with an owner and enjoy it.
Where we sit is a bit different from what people expect. Every home we look after is individually owned — each one is a specific family’s house, with their furniture and their taste, not a corporate block of identical units. What we add is that we are here. We live in The Villages, we hold the keys, and when something breaks we have a handyman who can be at the house rather than a phone number in another state. You are still renting one family’s home; there is simply someone local standing behind it.
We also do not take a security deposit, which is often the thing people are quietly bracing for when they book direct and then wonder how they get their money back.

Common questions
Is it cheaper to rent by owner in The Villages?
Sometimes, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. An owner renting for a few months a year may price below market simply to keep the house occupied, and there is often room to negotiate on a long stay. What you are trading for that is having someone local when something goes wrong. Whether that is worth it depends on how long you are staying and how much hassle you are willing to absorb.
Where do I find by-owner rentals here?
Our Villages Rental is the main local listing site and is genuinely owner-led. VRBO carries a lot of Villages homes. The community Facebook groups are where owners post their own availability, often before it appears anywhere else. None of those are us, and we would rather point you somewhere useful than waste your search.
Are your homes owned by a company?
No. Every home is owned by an individual or a couple — most of them people who live here part of the year. We manage them on the owner’s behalf. When you stay, you are in someone’s actual home.
So why book through you instead of direct with an owner?
Because someone local answers. We hold the keys, we have a handyman, and we run the Lifestyle ID paperwork for you rather than leaving you to work it out. If none of that matters for your trip, book direct with an owner — that is a perfectly good answer and we will not pretend it is not.
Can I contact the owner of one of your homes directly?
We manage the booking, so the arrangement runs through us. If you have a question only the owner can answer, ask us and we will ask them — that happens more often than you would think.
